Quick Start Guide

You’ve got your Values Vault Cards, now what? Let’s get started!

1. Unbox and Enjoy the Rainbow

When you first open your box, take a moment to appreciate the beautiful spectrum of colors the cards create! The vibrant rainbow is not only fun to see but will also help you organize and connect with the cards as you go.

2. Separate Your Decks

For ease of use, start by separating the cards into their four distinct decks. Flip them over to see the color on the back, this will tell you where each card belongs.

3. Easiest First Step: Green & Blue Decks

If you're new to sorting or are a therapist working with clients, the easiest place to start is by combining the Green and Blue decks. These decks focus on personal values, which is a great way to begin your values exploration and set a foundation for future sorting.

4. Focus on Career? Use the Green & Orange Decks

If you’re looking to dive into career-focused values, combine the Green and Orange decks. This combo is perfect for career counseling, exploring job changes, identifying burnout, or preparing for employee reviews and job interviews.

5. Tackle the Purple Deck (Optional)

The Purple deck is a deeper dive into personal growth and values, so it’s up to you whether you want to do this one separately or combine it with the others for a comprehensive exploration. If you’re feeling ambitious, give it a go on its own!

6. Fun Group Sorting

For a more interactive experience, try this: I had one family group (during a holiday) split the cards into three groups: Blue, Green+Orange, and Purple. Three people at a time worked on sorting the cards and finding their top values from their deck. After taking a photo or jotting down their top values, they switched decks with someone else until each person had sorted all three decks. It was a great way to compare and understand what everyone valued in their personal and professional lives, and it sparked meaningful conversation!

Another family shared some wonderful feedback after using the cards. Each person completed their card sort, then one family member wrote down each person’s top five values on a sticky note (without names attached). They posted all the sticky notes on a door, and over the next few days, everyone had to guess whose top 5 values belonged to whom. It may surprise you just how well someone's top five values can personify them!

Tips:

  • Don’t rush the process, take your time to reflect on the cards and what they truly mean for you.
  • Write down your top values as you go along so you can come back to them later.
  • Have fun with it! Whether you’re working alone or with a group, values exploration can be an enjoyable and eye-opening experience.

Happy sorting!
